Well written and explained. Got to know about OCR engines. Thank you for sharing such a lovely post with us.

I also want to share a post on UiPath. Hope you like it. Your opinion will greatly appreciated.

This is Neil from ABBYY.  I'd like to clarify that to use Finereader as an activity within uipath you need to purchase Finereader from them directly (UiPath has created an integration from our Finereader toolkit).  We do also have a desktop app called Finereader Desktop which is a standalone application and designed to work by itself hence why the author could not get it working inside UiPath.

Please note, if you need to perform intelligent ML based data extraction from documents then Flexicapture Distributed or FlexiCapture for Invoices (if invoice processing is your specific use case since it is pertained to understand such documents) would be required.

We've recently added an alternative to the traditional OCR to the UiPath Go Marketplace.

SortSpoke is a cloud based system that uses proprietary rapid learning AI/ML technology that allows enterprises to train in less than 1 day how to extract any data from any document type, structured or unstructured, in any language.

We are a good option to try when OCR can't handle the variations of a document type or when creating tons of templates is too time-consuming.

Great post BTW Gordon - I'm a new follower!  Thanks, Brandon
